Investigator Reed was a London police officer who worked in the Municipal Assizes on the 97th floor, chamber W, cubicle 19.
When the Dendarii Free Mercenary Fleet arrived with Cetagandans hot on their tails, he became involved with their activities. First he had to investigate an attempted assassination of Admiral Naismith; when the initial leads turned into dead ends, his investigations led him to believe that Miles Vorkosigan in the Barrayaran Embassy was the culprit.
The confusion that resulted from this turned to Miles's advantage as he was able to convince the Cetagandans that Admiral Naismith was a clone of himself and thus keep his undercover identity secret for several years longer.
